Syncing an AES node to 44.1k

Post by Bruce Wilkinson »

Occasionally we have a need to deliver audio from a node at a 44.1k sample rate. For example, some record devices may not have sample rate converters and will record only at 44.1kHz. Have no fear - we can configure a node to deliver audio at a sample rate other than our standard Livewire 48kHz. Here is how to do it.
  • 1. You need an AES reference at the desired sample rate. We suggest you use something that is always "on" such as an actual AES clock device. In a pinch, you can use a CD player. This reference needs to be connected to an AES node source. For this example, let's use source 1.
    2. Now, refer to the QoS page of the AES node configuration. Set your AES sync source to "IN 1"
    3. Set AES output sync to "AES sync source"
That is it. Now all destinations (outputs) of this AES node will be operating at the same sample rate as the reference input - source 1 in this case.
NOTE: If your reference AES input signal should "disappear", the node will continue to operate however the sample rate may revert to the 48k standard.
