Talk about Element audio consoles.

GPIO connection to AirTools 6100 for Element control?

Post by Stephen Wilkinson »

Hi
Has anyone connected a GPIO port to the Airtools 6100 Delay unit?
I can get control with Element but no LEDs. 6100 puts out +5V with all gnds joined.

Can anyone make a suggestion of wiring process of LED's?

Thanks
Stephen

Yes.

We interfaced our 6100 unit and we ran into exactly the same problem.

The simple fix is to get yourself 4 opto isolator units. You can get them from Mouser, Newark, etc. They are pretty cheap. We used the Optek 1264A. They cost about $3 each at Mouser.

The opto isolators are an LED on one side and a transistor on the other. Hook up the LED side to the Airtools as if you were - well - hooking up any sort of LED.

When the 6100 indicators turn on, the transistor side of the optoisolator will look like a contact closure. Connect that to the Axia GPIO. Follow the Axia wiring diagrams for where you need to connect power and ground to make a 'dry' contact closure work.

Umm - we found one additional minor issue. The GPIO pinout listed in the Element manual isn't quite right. The "START" and "DELAY" indicators are actually driven by the same pin. There is no separate input to just light up the "DELAY" indicator on the Element display.

Cheers,

-Andrew

Thanks Andrew

That was what I thought I'd have to do, thanks for confirming that. (It stops me from going insane! :D )

Have you had any response from Axia about the "start" and "delay" indicators?

Thanks again
Stephen

Andrew, thanks for the note about the GPIO pinouts. I'll ask the Dev team about it.

Delay Controls, Bug!

R&D confirms that there is a bug in the GPIO table for the Delay Control buttons as you describe. It is fixed in Element v2.x software which is currently in the final testing stage prior to release. Sorry about that!

Thanks, works well with some optos in line.
